NEW DELHI – Prices of maize fell in Davanagere, Karnataka, due to high moisture content in fresh crops, while they were unavailable in Purnea markets as mandis were shut and auctions were not held on account of Navratri, traders said.
* Prices of MAIZE fell sharply in the key market of Davanagere, Karnataka, today because of high moisture content in new crops, local trader Shiva Kumar said.
* Moisture content is estimated at 30-33%, much higher than the desirable limit of 14%, traders said.
* Arrivals were pegged at 1,200 bags (1 bag = 65 kg), down 300 bags from the previous trading day.
* Price of maize in Purnea, Bihar, were unavailable today as key wholesale markets were shut on account of Maha Ashtami, the eighth day of the Navratri celebrations. Markets in Purnea will resume trade from Thursday, traders said.
* Prices of mill-quality WHEAT were flat in Kota, Rajasthan, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. Arrivals were pegged at 12,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 2,000 bags from the previous day of trade.
* In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, the price of mill quality wheat was unchanged, and arrivals were steady at 5,000 bags, local trader N.K. Agarwal said.
* Prices of BASMATI 1121 RICE were stable today because of regular steady demand from bulk buyers, traders said.
